Why did you decide to run for County Commissioner?

It has been my honor to serve the people of Klickitat County with the Natural Resources and Economic Development Department for the last five years. During that time, I developed a strong rapport with elected officials and department heads, as well as my fellow residents. I feel fortunate to live in one of the best run counties in the state, which I believe is largely due to my fellow staff. As a result of ongoing efforts, we were in the best possible financial position at the onset of the current crisis, and I plan to continue that legacy. Coming into the 2020 election season, a number of people from across the political spectrum approached me about the District 1 seat. It is an opportunity for growth and public service that I am willing to accept. I plan to always be open, available, and ready to help, regardless of the question or issue at hand.

What issues would you prioritize if elected?

Our first task is to rebuild communities and businesses as we navigate the full economic impact of COVID-19. Tax revenues will likely be down for an extended period of time, and we will closely monitor and manage the budget.  Economic Development must continue working nonstop to support our small businesses. We have to continue supporting the amazing work of our Emergency Operations Center and Health Departm I feel fortunate to live in one of the best run counties in the state, which I believe is largely due to the staff and elected officials. Moving forward, our county operations will need modernization with an eye on efficiency. In District 1, we will continue planning for future growth by working closely with the cities of White Salmon and Bingen. In District 2, I would like to prioritize economic development with regards to the Klickitat Mill Site redevelopment and the Dallesport Regional Airport. As for District 3, we are looking at large scale industrial development through efforts like the Pump Storage Project and hopefully new small industry to help spur employment. During this campaign and beyond, my biggest priority is to be here for our citizens. It is a County Commissioner’s duty to serve all constituents, to listen to all sides, to show respect for all opinions, to try to find the win/win solutions, and when necessary to make the hard decisions.

Why should the people of Klickitat County elect you?

My roots run deep in this county. My family has been here for 5 generations, with my 10 yr old son Jaxson being the 6th. I have farmed the soil, milled the timber, built the roads, floated the rivers, and volunteered at every opportunity to help my county and community. I’ve chaired the Husum BZ Corner Community Council, served as chairman of the board of the Underwood Conservation District, served on the Farmland Preservation Task Force, am deeply connected to the White Salmon Irrigation District, and presently serve on the Klickitat County Planning Commission. My heart and soul is here, in our beautiful county, and I thank you for considering me for your vote.
